The Captain John Smith Four Hundred Project commemorates the Four Hundredth anniversary of the exploration of the Chesapeake Bay with the launching of a full-scale replica open boat or "shallop" used during his voyages. The vessel was built at the Sultana Shipyard in Chestertown, Maryland, where shipwrights relied exclusively upon 17th century tools and construction techniques.
