The Center for Career Development and The Office of Alumni Relations joined forces to provide an evening for graduating seniors in which they had the opportunity to meet and casually talk with alumni about experiences and career paths since their own graduation. Panelists now working in the fields of Environmental Science, Finance, Government, International Policy and Public Relations included Amy Levak '04 (Assistant Director of the Annual Fund, Goucher College), Rob Savidge '01 (Environmental Scientist, Straughan Environmental Services), Jennie Corwell '03 (Financial Management Analyst, US Navy), Gia Grier '02 (Public Outreach Specialist, Tetra Tech, Inc.), Travis Elliot '04 ((Research Associate, Center for Strategic & International Studies), and Tim Reath '96 (Financial Analyst, Morgan Stanley).
After enjoying a formal dinner together with members of the graduating class, faculty, and staff, panelists provided brief career bios as well as some words of wisdom for the seniors. The floor was then opened to questions. Recurring themes in the remarks made by the alumni included the value of making and keeping connections with others and the importance of financial planning. In the true spirit of networking, many of the seniors in attendance could be found still chatting with alumni long after the tables had been cleared and put away.
The Senior/Alumni Networking Dinner is one of several events sponsored by the Center for Career Development as part of Senior Career Week. For more information on career services provided to students and alumni, please visit http://career.washcoll.edu or call Ann Atwater Bourne at ext. 7890.
