This year's annual Casey Time Project had a deeper meaning for the Washington College community. Not only were the students given the opportunity to give back to their campus through community service in honor of Eugene Casey, they were also able to create a memorial garden in loving memory of Patrick McGrath, a student who passed away in November 2007.
This year's program came from the combined efforts of Joe Case (Grounds Supervisor), Joe Holt (Executive Vice President), Beth Anne Roy (Director of Student Development) and Mike Powell (SGA Secretary for Community Service) and Chris Rainer (Groundskeeper), as well as the brothers of the Kappa Alpha Order and Kappa Sigma and members of the Buildings and Grounds staff. In addition there were sisters from the Alpha Omicron Pi sorority, members of the Resident Assistant staff and the college community helping to make this garden possible in the front of Wicomico Residence Hall.
After two hours of hard work, Partick McGrath's family joined the Washington College community to pay tribute to and dedicate the garden in memory of Pat. Following the ceremony, Pat's brother Brian and Beth Anne agreed that there needed to be a bench added to the garden to make it complete. The bench has been ordered and will be placed as soon as it arrives. The Washington College community will forever remember you Pat and will always remember "What we do in life echoes in eternity."
