255 members of Washington College's students, faculty, and staff came out to walk in the Kent County Relay for Life in Worton. Washington College raised $5,000 out of the $65,000 going to the American Cancer Society.
The Relay began at 6:00 p.m. with the traditional survivor lap of family and friends. At 6:45 p.m., the official Relay began. The Relay was supposed to run until 10 a.m. on Saturday, but because of the threat of Hurricane Hanna, the organizers of the Relay to cancel by 10:30 p.m. Assistant Professor of Sociology Erin Anderson and Maria Grimes, Executive Secretary to the Provost were the last ones out of all the teams walking laps on the track in the pouring rain.
