Washington College marks the inauguration of President-Elect Barack
Obama with a look back at other U.S. Presidents who befriended the
institution throughout the course of American history.
Students are invited to witness history when President-elect Barack
Obama takes the oath of office on January 20, 2009. The inauguration
ceremonies will be broadcast in the Casey Academic Center Forum from
11 a.m. until 1 p.m.

George Washington served on Washington College's first Board of Visitors and Governors, relinquishing the position after becoming the first president of the United States in 1789.

Franklin Delano Roosevelt was the first sitting United States President to visit Washington College. He received an honorary doctor of laws degree on October 21, 1933.

Harry S Truman was the Commencement speaker on June 1, 1946. He received the honorary doctor of laws degree.

Dwight D. Eisenhower was granted an honorary doctor of laws degree at Commencement ceremonies on June 7, 1954.

John F. Kennedy kicked off his Maryland campaign for the presidential nomination with a visit to Washington College on May 11, 1960.

Former U.S. President George Bush helped launch an 18-month-long celebration of the life of George Washington. He gave the Winter Convocation address on January 29, 1999.

The College's Hall of Presidents, recently installed in the Casey Academic Center, chronicles the presidential visits of those who followed our namesake, George Washington, to Chestertown.
